This small, understory tree generally goes unnoticed until it produces its white, ornate flowers, which carry a pleasant citrus smell. The fruits are small and turn orange when ripe. This species is found from southern Mexico to Peru and Brazil. In Costa Rica, it is located in the lowlands on both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.
Este pequeño árbol de sotobosque generalmente pasa desapercibido hasta que produce sus floraciones blancas, vistosas, con un olor agradable cítrico, los frutos son pequeños, de color anaranjado al madurar. Esta especie se encuentra desde el sur de México hasta Perú y Brasil. En Costa Rica se da en las zonas bajas de ambas vertientes.
