Plant Story

This tree, known colloquially as the Cockroach tree, is a large species that grows up to 30 meters tall. It has white, aromatic flowers and relatively large, brown fruits. This tree grows well in both humid, coastal regions and in mountain cloud forests. It is distributed from southern Mexico to Colombia, Venezuela, and Ecuador. In Costa Rica, it grows along the major mountain ranges, the coastal mountains, and the Osa Peninsula. 

 

Historia de la planta

El Billia rosea es un árbol de hasta 30 metros de alto, el cual tiene flores blancas y aromáticas y frutos relativamente grandes, marrón.  Este árbol se da tanto en zonas húmedas de bajura, como en bosques nubosos de montaña, se ha encontrado desde el sur de México, hasta Venezuela y Ecuador. En Costa Rica se da en todas las cordilleras principales, la fila Costeña y la Península de Osa.
