This tree grows up to 40 m high, it is known from Nicaragua to Panama, in Costa Rica it is found sporadically in various locations on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. The flowers are white, its pollinator is unknown, the fruits are spherical, dark, hard, resinous, and containing a seed covered by a red structure edible by animals called aril.

Este árbol llega hasta 40 m de alto, se conoce desde Nicaragua a Panama, en Costa Rica se encuentra esporádicamente en varias localidades en el atlántico y el pacífico. Las flores son blancas, no se conoce su polinizador, los frutos son esféricos, oscuros, duros, resinosos, contienen una semilla cubierta por una estructura roja comestible por los animales llamada arilo.
