Plant Story

This species grows small, white flowers pollinated by insects and fruits that ripen reddish and are consumed by birds and arboreal mammals, though they are edible to humans as well. Its wood has been used for firewood and to build poles. Distributed from Mexico to northern South America, in Costa Rica it is common to find the tree throughout both the Atlantic and Pacific slopes, though it prefers the seasonal climates of the Pacific.

Esta especie posee flores blancas, relativamente pequeñas, las cuales son polinizadas por insectos, los frutos maduran rojizos y son consumidos por aves y mamíferos arbóreos. Su madera ha sido usada para leña y para postes, sus frutos son comestibles. Se conoce desde México hasta el norte de Suramérica, en Costa Rica es común encontrar en ambas vertientes, sin embargo prefiere los climas estacionales del pacífico.
