Little is known about this rare tree, which reaches up to 20 meters and inhabits mature, humid forests in low to mid-elevations. The tree is distributed from México to Panama, and grows along both the Atlantic and Pacific slopes of Costa Rica.
Este árbol es relativamente escaso y poco conocido, llega a medir hasta 20 metros de altura, habita en bosques maduros de zonas bajas a medias, con climas húmedos o muy húmedos. Se conoce de México a Panamá; en Costa Rica en ambas vertientes.
