El Homalelopsis cedron es un árbol monopódico (generalmente no ramifica) de hasta 12 metros de alto. Sus hojas son largas, amargas, las flores son pequeñas, blancas, probablemente polinizadas por insectos. Los frutos son péndulos, medianos, pardos. Es conocida medicinalmente para tratar fiebres, tratar males gastrointestinales, entre otros. Se conoce desde Costa Rica hasta Brasil, en Costa Rica se da únicamente en la vertiente pacífica.
