Plant Story

This tree is a member of the coffee family (Rubiaceae) and reaches between just 5 to 10 meters tall. The white underside of its leaves assists in its identification. Its fruits are small and its flowers are white or cream-colored; their pollinator is not well known. The species grows in humid forests, where it prefers secondary forests, scrubland, and other open spaces. The species is distributed from Costa Rica to South America; in Costa Rica, it grows along both the Atlantic and Pacific slopes.

Este árbol pertenece a la familia del café (Rubiaceae), alcanza de 5 a 10 metros de alto y posee unas hojas muy características ya que son color blanco por debajo. Las flores son blancas o color crema, no se conoce bien su polinizador y los frutos son pequeños. Crece en bosques húmedos y muy húmedos, donde prefiere bosques secundarios, charrales y lugares abiertos. Se encuentra desde Costa Rica hasta Bolivia, en Costa Rica se distribuye en ambas vertientes.
