Plant Story

This tree reaches up to 35 meters high, and has a rather peculiar bark, which sheds in patches of irregular color. Its bark is fibrous, and its flowers are white and likely pollinated by bats. Its small, yellowish fruits are consumed by arboreal mammals. Its wood has been used for construction, formwork, and plywood. This species grows in seasonal and non-seasonal forests in humid climates, and is distributed from Costa Rica to Ecuador.

 

Historia de la planta

El molenillo (Quararibea asterolepis) es un árbol de hasta 35 metros de altura, posee una corteza bastante peculiar, que se exfolia en parches de color irregular. La corteza es fibrosa, las flores son blancas, probablemente polinizadas por murciélagos, los frutos son pequeños amarillentos, consumidos por mamíferos arbóreos. La madera ha sido utilizada para construcción general, formaleta, plywood. Esta especie crece en bosques estacionales o no estacionales, de clima húmedo a muy húmedo, se conoce desde Costa Rica hasta Ecuador.
