Plant Story

This species is small, reaching only up to 15 meters. A white latex is present throughout the plant. Its leaves are large and generally covered by short, colorless hairs. Its fruits ripen purple and are likely eaten by birds. This species grows in humid forests in low elevations and is distributed from Nicaragua to Brazil; in Costa Rica,  it is widely distributed along the Atlantic and Pacific slopes.

Esta especie de ojochillo (Sorocea pubivena) es de porte pequeño, llega hasta 15 metros de altura, tiene látex blanco presente en toda la planta. Las hojas son grandes, generalmente cubiertas por pelos cortos, incoloros. Los frutos maduran morados y son consumidos probablemente por aves. Crece en bosques húmedos a muy húmedos de zonas bajas, se conoce desde Nicaragua hasta Bolivia y Brasil, en Costa Rica es amplia en ambas vertientes.
