This tree is a member of the coffee family, can reach up to 25 meters, and grows in humid forests. Its elongated, yellow flowers are pollinated by hummingbirds and butterflies, while its fruits and seeds are dispersed by animals. Its wood is used to manufacture the body of cars, poles and tool handles. It is distributed in Costa Rica along the Pacific slope from 0 to 500 meters above sea level; outside the country it has been recorded from Panama to Ecuador.
Este árbol es de la familia del café (Rubiaceae), logra alcanzar hasta 25 m de altura. Crece en bosques húmedos o muy húmedos. Sus flores amarillas muy alargadas son visitadas por colibríes y mariposas. Sus frutos y semillas son dispersados por animales. Su madera es utilizada para fabricación de carrocerías, postes y mangos de herramientas. Se distribuye en Costa Rica en la vertiente del Pacífico desde los 0 a 500 msnm y se ha reportado desde Panamá hasta Ecuador.
