Plant Story

This tree, which reaches up to 30 meters, grows in altered areas and alongside roads. Its flowers are pollinated by insects and its seeds are dispersed by the birds that feed on its ripe fruits. Thanks to its strong resilience in altered areas, it has great potential for ecosystem restoration. In Costa Rica, it is found from 0 to 1700 meters above sea level and is distributed from Guatemala to the northern region of South America and Peru.

 

Historia de la planta

El Trema integerrima es un árbol que alcanza hasta 30 metros de altura, crece en áreas alteradas y orillas de caminos. Sus flores son visitadas por insectos y  sus semillas son dispersadas por aves que se alimentan de los frutos maduros. Gracias a que posee gran resistencia a áreas intervenidas, tiene gran potencial para restauración de ecosistemas. En Costa Rica se encuentra de 0 a 1700 msnm y se distribuye desde Guatemala hasta Perú.
