This tree is relatively common in humid, altered areas and is easily recognized by its branchlets, flowers and leaves, which have an ocher-colored pubescence. Its flowers are yellowish, and its small, yellow or gray-brown berries feed birds. Its main uses are medicinal, since it has substances that are considered to fight cancer and are antibacterial and analgesic. It is distributed from southern Mexico to southern Brazil; in Costa Rica it grows on both the Atlantic and Pacific slopes between 0 and 2000 meters above sea level.
Vismia baccifera es un árbol relativamente común de zonas intervenidas, se reconoce fácilmente por sus ramitas, flores y hojas que tienen una pubescencia color ocre. Sus Flores son amarillentas y sus frutos son bayas pequeñas de color amarillo o gris marrón de los cuales se alimentan algunas aves. Sus principales usos son medicinales ya que tiene sustancias que son consideradas anticancerígenas, antibacterianas y analgésicas. Se distribuye desde el sur de México hasta el sur de Brasil y en Costa Rica en ambas vertientes entre 0 y 2000 metros de elevación.
