Plant Story

This tree is a member of the avocado family, characterized by its bark’s pleasant smell and by leaves grouped at the end of the branches with a whitish underside. Its flowers are white-green, and its small fruits grow about 3 centimeters and turn reddish when ripe. Its wood has been used for fence posts and corrals, as it is highly resistant to rot. Its distribution is limited exclusively to Costa Rica, and it is endemic to the country’s central and southern Pacific regions.

Williamodendron glaucophyllum es un árbol de la familia del aguacate (Lauraceae) que se caracteriza por tener un olor agradable en su corteza y las hojas agrupadas al final de la rama con su envés blanquecino. Sus flores son verdes blancuzcas y sus frutos pequeños de hasta 3 centímetros que se tornan rojizos al madurar. Su madera ha sido utilizada en postes de cerca y corrales ya que es altamente resistente a la pudrición. Su distribución está limitada exclusivamente a Costa Rica ya que es una especie endémica del Pacífico central y sur.
