Plant Story

This palm is notorious due to both its ability to reach large sizes, and its trunk, which is packed with flattened black thorns. It is a prolific producer of orange fruits which are incredibly important for the fauna of the region. This species grows in very humid forests and is found from Costa Rica to Ecuador. In Costa Rica, it only grows on the central and southern Pacific coast and along the base of the Talamanca mountain range.

Historia de la planta

Esta palma es muy notoria debido a que alcanza grandes dimensiones y a que su tronco está repleto de espinas aplanadas negras. Produce frutos anaranjados en grandes cantidades, los cuales son de suma importancia para la fauna de la zona. Esta especie habita en bosques muy húmedos y es conocida desde Costa Rica hasta Ecuador, en Costa Rica únicamente se conoce del pacífico central, sur y baja Talamanca.
