This tree reaches 15 meters tall, with a light colored bark and slightly ribbed in texture. Little is known about this relatively rare species. Its white flowers are most likely pollinated by insects and its drupe fruits are small and eaten by birds and small mammals. This species can be found growing in very humid forests in Mexico and Belize, and from Nicaragua to Panama, including the major Caribbean Islands. In Costa Rica it can be found along both the Atlantic and Pacific slopes.

Sus flores son blancas y probablemente polinizadas por insectos y los frutos son drupas pequeñas, seguramente consumidas por aves y mamíferos pequeños. Esta especie se encuentra creciendo en bosques muy húmedos, en México, Belice, desde Nicaragua hasta Panamá y las antillas mayores; en Costa Rica se encuentra en ambas vertientes.
