Due to its small size and the beauty of its flowers and fruits, it has strong potential as an ornamental species, however it has hardly been so used. This species grows in humid forests ranging between 0 to 1000 meters above sea level, and is found in northwest Panama and along both the Atlantic and Pacific slopes of Costa Rica.
