Piper terrabanum, called cordoncillo because of the appearance of its erect inflorescences, is a shrub or small tree that reaches up to 3 m in height. It is a common species in the lowlands of Costa Rica, and is known from Nicaragua to western Colombia. Its flowers are tiny, white and are arranged in spike-like inflorescences, they are mainly pollinated by bees, the fruits are spherical, small.

Piper terrabanum, llamado cordoncillo por la apariencia de sus inflorescencias erectas, es un arbusto o arbolito pequeño que alcanza hasta 3 m de altura. Es una especie común en las zonas bajas de Costa Rica, se conoce desde Nicaragua hasta el oeste de Colombia. Sus flores son diminutas, blancas y se encuentran dispuestas en inflorescencias de tipo espiga, son polinizadas por abejas principalmente, los frutos son esféricos, pequeños.
